A24 Productions Take the SpotlightA24’s fantastical family drama Everything Everywhere All at Once earned top honors at the 2022 Dorian Film Awards, winning Film of the Year, as well as accolades for its director and screenplay. The film’s star, Michelle Yeoh, was also recognized with the Best Performance award, while Ke Huy Quan won Supporting Performance. Everything Everywhere All at Once also received the awards for LGBTQ Film and Visually Striking Film.

In addition to Everything Everywhere All at Once, A24’s stop-motion film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On took home the Animated Film award, while its horror prequel Pearl won Campiest Flick honors. Writer-director Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun was named Best Unsung Film, a category created to acknowledge exceptional movies deserving of greater attention.

Michelle Yeoh Named Wilde Artist of the Year

Michelle Yeoh, who starred in Everything Everywhere All at Once, was honored as Wilde Artist of the Year, an award named in tribute to Oscar Wilde that recognizes “truly groundbreaking force in film, theater and/or television.” Yeoh’s previous credits include her breakout role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and she joins a distinguished list of previous honorees that includes Pedro Almodóvar, Kate McKinnon, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Janelle Monáe Recognized as LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer

Janelle Monáe was named LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer for their contributions to the entertainment industry. Monáe, who co-starred in last year’s film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, joins past Trailblazers like Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and director Isabel Sandoval.

GALECA’s 10 Best Unsung LGBTQ Film Films of 2022

In a special vote, GALECA members named the 10 Best Unsung LGBTQ Film Films of 2022, recognizing theatrical releases that they felt deserved more attention. The list includes Anais in Love, Benediction, Close, Firebird, Girl Picture, Great Freedom, Peter von Kant, Please Baby Please, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

The Dorian Film Awards celebrate films that address LGBTQ themes or feature standout LGBTQ performers and filmmakers. The winners are chosen by over 400 entertainment critics, journalists, and media icons who are members of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.

Overall, this year’s winners showcase the diversity and creativity of the film industry, with a mix of big-budget blockbusters and independent productions earning recognition for their outstanding achievements.
