Social Media has become a big problem in today’s society. If you have yet to accept that nothing could happen to you because of social media then don’t watch this film. I’m kidding watch this film, you will re-evaluate your choses in life. If this film doesn’t make you question your online stalker friend, then I don’t know what will. Kévin Mendioure directed, The Photographer in the hopes to warn people of the dangers of social media.

Marina is a 15 year old teen and very into social media, as we all are, but one night while texting her friend, she comes face to face with her stalker. She spent most of her night texting and checking social media when her stalker begins to message her. He brushes it off like its nothing, but little does she know he is much closer than she could imagine.

The short is only five minutes long, but with in those short minutes you fear for the life of Marina. Every corner she walks by, and every time she turns on the damn phone light, you sit, waiting, watching, and wondering where the killer is. Each shot was well prepared and added to the atmosphere of the film.

What I absolutely loved about the film is the lack of dialogue in the film. The only words spoken were by the appropriate person, without spoiling anything. Everyone in the house never said a word and this, I believe, gave it a much more realistic feeling. If there was someone in my house, I would not want to alert that person to my presence. Marina, played by Marine Mendioure, did an excellent job playing a scared young girl hiding from her stalker.

I appreciated watching the short and seeing elements from other horror movies such as Scream. The killer was beautifully portrayed and the mask was scary yet comical. It felt like an nod to the film Scream. Kévin Mendioure captured the best part of a full length film in five minutes. Truly I well done short film.

Kévin Mendioure is a french director and has many small shorts under his belt. If you would like to learn more about him visit his website.
