The Raid was possibly my favorite action movie of 2011, so we’re very excited to announce that this story of a lone, isolated SWAT team member trapped by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers as he makes his way to the top of a tenement block is being reimagined by director Joe Carnahan and executive produced by the martial arts visionary himself, Gareth Evans.

The original made instant stars of its leads and won the People’s Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section of TIFF in 2011 and had 10 nominations at the 2012 Maya Awards, so the it has some big shoes to fill, but it seems to be in capable hands. The film is set to star Frank Grillo, who has an impressive resume, starring in The Purge: Anarchy and both Captain America films. Carnahan has done work on the hit TV-series The Blacklist and directed The Grey with Liam Neeson.
