Jeepers Creepers came out in when I was in high school, and was nothing like I expected it to be. It was a great, creepy little film that introduced the world to the Creeper, a brand new monster that terrified me. His backstory, with only having 23 days to harvest body parts and organs before going back into hibernation for 23 years, before beginning the process again, was just enough to make me wonder what other mayhem he had gotten into.

Jeepers Creepers 2 continued his story, taking place during the same feeding cycle as the first film, and while not AS good as the first, still was great.

And for years, I, along with many others, have longed for a third. Today, that wish came true.

Variety reported today that the long awaited final entry in the trilogy will begin shooting in Vancouver early next year. Myriad Pictures will finance the film, and is already seeking international sales for it at the Toronto Film Festival.

Victor Salva, who wrote and directed the first two films, is returning again to do the same. Jonathan Breck will also return as the Creeper (because really, no one else could pull it off). Finally, Brandon Smith will return as Sergeant Davis Tubbs from the first film. In this go-round, he joins a task force determined to destroy the Creeper on the last of its 23 days. No word yet on if Justin Long will make a cameo, like he did in the second film.

I am so stoked for this. The original is one of my favorite horror comedies, and it had that right balance of laughter and gore. I got my hopes up a few years back when it was announced that Salva would shoot the third film, subtitled Cathedral, but it never got off the ground. We’re not sure if this new announcement will follow the same concept, or go off in a new direction. But either way,  I’m sure it will be a blast.
