For years, horror fans have been captivated by iconic slasher characters like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface. All of these characters have one thing in common: they are all male. While there have been some great female villains in horror films, there has never been a female masked slasher that can stand alongside the icons of the genre. That is, until now.
In 2017, a group of horror fans created a low-budget horror film called “Curse of the Slasher Nurse” featuring a female masked slasher. Although the film went mostly unnoticed, it inspired the filmmakers to continue their work and develop their skills. Six years later, they are back with a new film, “The Slasher Nurse”, which is a reboot of their 2017 film.
“Curse of the Slasher Nurse” tells the story of a girl who is committed to a mental hospital after accidentally killing her mother with a butcher knife. After 15 years, she escapes from the hospital and seeks revenge, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake. The film was made with a budget of only $5,000 and was the first film for Dave Kerr, the founder of Slasher 15 Productions.
Since “Curse of the Slasher Nurse”, Slasher 15 Productions has made four more full-length horror films, each with a higher budget and better quality than the last. Their most notable film to date is “Bloody Summer Camp”, starring Felissa Rose and Dave Sheridan. The film was picked up for distribution by Gravitas Ventures and is currently available on most video-on-demand platforms.
“The Slasher Nurse” is a reimagining of the original story, with some key elements remaining the same while changing the characters and plot. The nurse’s look will be updated, and she will have a new origin story, but the filmmakers promise that the new film will stay true to the gut-wrenching feel of the original.
