Altar is the story of A group of college friends set out to have a fun reunion weekend with fellow alumni at a mountain retreat but things quickly go down hill as the friends find themselves lost,  hours away from civilization. The found-footage film is written and directed by Matthew Sconce and stars Stefani Estes (Maisy Marks), Brittany Falardeau (Chelsea Rich), and Tim Parrish (Asher James).

Everything begins innocently enough. Friends catch up on what one another has been doing since graduating college. There is a small amount of excitement when the vehicle breaks down but that is short lived. Everyone is ecstatic to be going on this retreat but little do they know what is about to unfold.

Altar does a great job at foreshadowing what awaits the group of friends, yet some things are left unexplained. The supernatural entity that resides in the woods is never given an origin story. It would have been nice to know how it came to be a why it was dangerous. Common sense would dictate leaving the minute something didn’t feel right, but if any one listened to common sense there would be no story.

I sat at the edge of my seat waiting for some kind of indication that blood would be spilled. The wait finally ended as the film concluded.  I was not disappointed with the final scene. I always love a good sacrifice to an altar.
