It is a daunting task to be a theme park, competing in the saturated market in southern California. Up to this point Six Flags Magic Mountain has maintained their place as the Coaster Capital of the World with a record 19 coasters. They have carved out a niche for themselves that has served them well, keeping with high-octane thrills as opposed to highly detailed dark rides. That is until now.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is preparing to open a brand new, 4-D, interactive dark ride. Justice League: Battle for Metropolis is the parks first plunge into the world of immersive attractions that will feature the popular DC Comics characters, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, The Green Lantern, The Flash, and Supergirl in a battle against the evil forces attacking Metropolis. The attraction will zip visitors around on 6-passenger, motion platform ride vehicles through detailed sets featuring animatronics, 3-D screens, 4-D effects, and nearly every technological trick in the book.

HorrorBuzz was invited to come look at the construction site where this new mega-attraction is coming together and to take a tour of the retheming of the surrounding area.

Six Flags had plenty of experience in building this attraction as there are already versions of the ride in operation at their parks in Mexico, Texas, Illinois, and New Jersey. This time though, they had even more room to expand the ride, offering up three additional show scenes in this California version.

Construction is some of the most encompassing that the park has seen in its 49 years of operation. A brand new Metropolis themed section will expand the DC footprint in the park next door to the popular DC Universe area. The entire promenade leading to the impressive Riddler’s Revenge coaster is behind walls getting a full Metropolis makeover. The new attraction, taking the spot formerly held by the Batman Stunt Show Arena, will be housed in a 24,000 Square foot show building.

The proposed façade for Justice League: Battle For Metropolis.

The set up for the thrilling new ride is that the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Harley Quinn have teamed up and kidnapped the Justice League superheroes. Their evil plan is to blitz the city with laughing gas and take over. It is up to us to rescue our heroes, save the city, and escape with our lives.

We enter the show building and see the massive expanse.

The shell of the building is in place the with the foundation laid, the roof and walls up, and the raised platform for the boarding area at the front of the building. The entire ride track was carefully plotted out in the cement. As guests enter the building, a pre show will explain that the security systems for the Justice League have been compromised and we will, of course, be recruited to help save the day.

Pictures really don’t do the scope of this show building any justice. See what I did there?

The first walls have gone up in the center of the facility. That area will be housing the equipment that will be powering the multiple 3D screens and physical effects employed in the ride.

Outside the newly refreshed eateries will include Metropolis themed food items and a lush beer garden where guests can rest up after saving the world from certain destruction at the hands of the Joker.

It is the assertion of Six Flags Magic Mountain, that Justice League: Battle For Metropolis will not just be able to compete with the plethora of dark rides in southern California but it will raise the bar. Going head to head with the likes of Universal, Knott’s Berry Farm, and of course Disneyland won’t be easy.

The ride, produced by Sally Corp. who has multiple projects with Six Flags around the globe. They have been trying for decades to convince Six Flags Magic Mountain to try their hand at dark rides. It is believed that with a few prototypes of the ride under their belt, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis will have what it takes to allow Magic Mountain to proudly enter the dark ride arena.

We here at HorrorBuzz are excited to see what thrills, chills, and excitement are in store for us when the ride opens in the summer of 2017

The Six Flags and HorrorBuzz teams are ready to save the world!
