Mommy Fearist is here with some Frightening Family Fun for the upcoming weekend. It’s too Boo-tiful to stay indoors. Get out and enjoy what the season has to offer for your freaky family!

Boo’s Cruise

This Friday evening kick off the weekend with a Boo’s Cruise from Dana Point. It’s a celebration of the season for a great cause. Cruises start at 5pm and run every 20 minutes until 7pm. Every voyage includes a costume contest with prizes and thrilling raffles. There will also be entertainment for those waiting on land to depart. The proceeds from the Boo’s Cruise go to “Special Fishies:Aquatic Freedom and Education” an organization that provides scholarships for special needs kids. For reservations click here.

Brick Or Treat at Legoland

It’s Brick or Treat time every Saturday in October at Legoland! This year brings even more candy stations and new things to do; including a Midnight Monster Jam at the Fun Town Stage where you can get your groove on with the monster crew before they creep back into their storybook. Also new this year at the Model Shop Roof is the AstroBash, the best dance party in the galaxy. Returning to the event this year is the popular Ghost Cruise Adventure, Pumpkin Patch building activity and so much more! Click here for more info!

Boot Hill

The fog rises for the 18th time this weekend in Irvine to reveal Boot Hill, Orange County’s most elaborate yard display. This is a family friendly haunt and while there are plenty of ghastly cowboys roaming around, there is no blood or gore to terrify little ones. This year Boot Hill is open to guests for 8 nights of shrieking thrills and special effects spectacles. Parking is extremely limited but available at nearby Springbrook Elementary School until 10pm sharp. There is no charge but donations are accepted with a portion going to benefit CHOC. Check the website here for all you need to know including the legend of boot hill, location, dates and hours.

Scarium of the Pacific

For some daytime fun by the ocean, check out “Scarium of the Pacific” at the Aquarium of the Pacific this Saturday and Sunday, October 14th and 15th. Explore the creepy creatures that inhabit our oceans, make some Halloween themed crafts, listen to a spine chilling storyteller and bring out your inner Wyland via crayons for the coloring contest. Dress up your buoys and ghouls for the costume contest. And don’t forget to check out the underwater pumpkin carving! What is that about? I don’t know but I am intrigued. The event is included with admission. Aquarium hours are 9am-5pm

Mable’s 6 Feet Under

Little Mable wants you to come and play. You see, she’s trapped for all eternity and she would like some people to keep her company at Mable’s 6ft Under Haunted Hotel. Check in if you dare and then GET LOST! This is a true maze with tricks around every turn. It is not recommended for small children but if your younger monster is ok with loud noises and an occasional pop out scare, it might be perfect for them! There is no blood or out-right gore but plenty of hair raising happenings about this attraction. Mable’s 6ft Under Haunted Motel runs Wednesday-Sunday through November 4th. Find out more details here.

Roger’s Gardens

A tour of Roger's Gardens Halloween Boutique, Magic and Mayhem

Owls, Brooms and black cats…OH MY! Roger’s Gardens brings the magic to life with this year’s Halloween Boutique. The Magic and Mayhem in the gardens enchant visitors with special creations that have a nod to the magical world of Harry Potter. Let’s not forget that this is a premier nursery with vines, shrubs and other flora for sale that are sure to please any muggle or wizard. The nursery is open every day from 9am -6pm and does have a lot of visitors on the weekends.

Haunt at Heritage Hill

For the 10th year, Lake Forest transforms into a haunted hallow during the Haunt at Heritage Hill. There will be plenty of tricks and treats for guests as they make their way through scare zones and mazes. Not all the screams will be in the “scaregrounds”, there will be screenings of classic horror movies, a dance party with an extreme Dj and light show. It is recommended for adults and kids 12 and up. Costumes are ok but leave your mask and face paint at home as they are not permitted. It’s only two nights, October 13th and 14th so don’t miss out on this event. Admission is $8.

Fullerton

Looking for some mid-week screams? Monday through Friday, October 16th-20th and again October 23rd-27th, the City of Fullerton guides guests on a haunted trek around Fullerton. Learn about some unexplained happenings, local lore and the city’s history while walking about downtown. This tour is a favorite amongst paranormal investigators and historians alike. The hair raising locations do change regularly. The tour is approximately 1.5 miles so it is advisable to leave your high heeled shoes at home. Space is limited so reserve space immediately and don’t be late to the meet and greet before hand. Get more information on reservations, directions and cost here.

Buster Balloon’s Halloween SPOOK’tacular

This past Mid-Summer Scream, the Fearist Family caught Buster Balloon’s show and we loved it! Buster is part magic, part comedy, add in some balloon animals mixed in with silly puppets and you get entertainment for the entire family. There is lots of audience participation which the kiddos love. You can see Buster Balloon’s Halloween SPOOK’tacular this Friday, October 13th, 4 pm at the Torrance Library. Also Saturday, October 14th, 4pm at A.K. Smiey Public Library in Redlands.
Buster has plenty of shows lined up for the month October. You can check his website here or keep checking Horrorbuzz.com and Mommy Fearist’s weekly updates of frightening family fun!

About the Author

Erin Jefferson-Foley (Mommy Fearest) is terrified of scary movies, gore and zombies. But she loves all things Halloween and Haunt related! Slowly but surely she has been dipping her toes into the realm of horror movies with great results. Pretty soon she will work her way up to watching a scary movie when it is dark outside. Erin has had a love affair with theme park Halloween events for the past 20 years. Her first time at an event was at Knott's Scary Farm in the late 80s when a family friend, a Knott's employee, escorted her into the park to watch Elvira and give her a behind the scenes tour. She was intrigued as she walked through the break room and realized that they were just people in masks and makeup. It seemed like only a short time later, Erin was performing for Halloween Haunt which led to her meeting the love of her life, her husband. Each year she cheers on her husband and his friends as they set up and run a home haunt. You can catch her helping with line control and repeating the same instructions over and over and over to the guests each night. She has been a professional dancer and actress for over 20 years. When she is not in the studio teaching dance or in her office writing, you can catch Mommy Fearest with her husband and two kids at various conventions throughout California. She enjoys Cosplay, Star Wars, Renaissance Faires, Halloween, haunted attractions, paranormal happenings, special effects makeup and horrible reality television shows.
