IMG_2586If you are wandering through Disneyland on May 1st, you might notice an all day darkness descending upon the park.   But Horrorbuzz.com fans might know it’s time for Bat’s Day in the Fun park, the annual celebration of dark counter culture that takes place over one weekend at a local Anaheim hotel for the first two days and culminates with a full day of meetings and photo opportunities all over Disney’s original magic kingdom.

The event started Friday with the The Bats Day Happy Haunts Swinging Wake: A Costumed Celebration
Haunted Mansion Themed Costumed Ball, where magic, music, and all the merriment the restless spirits could materialize.

Saturday we attended the annual Bat’s Day Black Market at the Double Tree Hotel where amazing vendors were selling everything from clothing to custom created horror inspired soap.  Which included a booth (with discount tickets) for the newly announced Midsummer Scream event and featuring a live make-up demonstration.

The event also has an annual artwork contest which this year focused on the return of the Hatbox ghost with sculpture and images, many of which were for sale by amazing artists.

Tomorrow as you notice fashions ranging from deathlock, and steampunk to Rockabilly and Psychobilly (and all dark flavors in-between) realize this isn’t a costumed invasion but a celebration of style and dark culture “frolicking” for a single day in the place best known for blending fantasy and reality.  The event concludes in the one corner of the park that best illustrates this mixture of darkness and humor, the world famous Haunted Mansion.  Just before nightfall the entire group will gather for a photo and then enjoy a ride on this “horrific” classic.

Will you be attending? We hope to see you there.
