Last year, we checked out THE SIDESHOW, a fantastic immersive experience from CoAct Productions, and loved it. The wonderful folks at CoAct are not only some of the nicest in the business, but they also put on some amazing shows. I don’t know how I missed it over the weekend, but they sent us some information on their next production where they will explore the intricacies of the human mind in THE SEVERANCE THEORY: WELCOME TO RESPITE.

In THE SEVERANCE THEORY, participants will step into the shoes of the mentally disturbed in the first of a four-part series exploring a rare psychological phenomenon. Designed for a single audience member at a time, this thirty minute experience offers you a gateway into the past as you examine a childhood memory. You will experience a bit of solace in this moment, but the respite is only temporary when you’re in the throes of your own mind.

The series is set to explore the first-hand account of someone living with mental illness and how they navigate the disorder, from the symptomatic beginnings to manifestation. You can expect the lines between reality and the subconscious mind to be blurred.

Basing a show around a mental illness is a tricky business, and you might be concerned about how it is portrayed. However, I have no doubt that the folks at CoAct Productions can pull it off respectfully.
