This week Fox dropped the teaser trailer for the upcoming television remake of the 70’s cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The new movie, directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Hocus Pocus, Newsies) is staring the lovely, Emmy Award nominated Laverne Cox as Dr. Frankenfurter, Ryan Mccarran as Brad Majors, and Victoria Justice as Janet Weiss. The cast will also be joined by original cast member Tim Curry in the roll of The Criminologist.

The trailer below shows very, very little. We begin with the exterior shot of The Frankenstein Place and Brad Majors and Janet Weiss scurry for cover from the rain. We next see Reeve Carney as Riff Raff, delivering an almost perfect imitation of Richard O’Brian’s original portrayal. We then get our first look at Dr. Frankenfurter. Red hair flared up behind a headband, lips like a candied apple, and jet black eye shadow. Is this Frankenfurter going to be portrayed as female? This might be interesting. Think about it. The song that Frankfurter enters to is “Sweet Transvestite” That could go both ways really. What if Laverne will be singing that in men’s clothes?

Our only concern at the moment is that both Cox and Carney seem to be imitating the characters from the 1975 film rather than creating their own. Who really knows though. This is literally a 30 second trailer so it would be premature to create a review of an entire 90 minute movie from that. Frankenfurterly, we are excited to see this revitalized edition of one of our favorite musicals of all time.

Check out the trailer for yourself.
