The Unearthians is a new sci-fi comic series from author and filmmaker Omar Mora, the first issue of which will release July 17th. Los Angeles comic book store Golden Apple Comics will host a release and signing event with Omar Mora on Wednesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Synopsis:  Two best friends are abducted by aliens and imprisoned in an underground base on Earth. While in captivity, Mateo and Carter discover the dark agenda that the aliens have in store for Earth and the entire galaxy. But Mateo and Carter also have a secret which they will use to their advantage. Good and evil collide when this unconventional team comes together to battle the fascist regime.

I’m not the most voracious comic reader, but the art for this project (supplied by Mauricio Alvarez and Edwin Estrada) is especially intriguing. I’m reminded a lot of the Amory Wars series in both design and execution, and with that in mind, I’m already sold. Check out these stand-out pieces:

I’m not sure entirely what’s happening in the third picture, but it looks like a combination between the spiderman symbiotes, a Star Wars-esque space battle, and an aesthetic vaporwave palette, and I’m here for all of it.

The Unearthians will be available digitally at Comixology.com and in print formats in local comic book stores in Los Angeles including Golden Apple Comics and Legacy Comics, and through the website TheUnearthiansComics.com.
