Laura, a young and attractive mother, gets out to run as she does every morning through out the woods nearby her house. She couldn’t imagine this time will be the run of her life when she gets attacked by some mysterious strangers.

Monica Miranda plays Laura, a young athletic woman out for her daily jog. Her iPod’s earbuds are stuck in her ears, tunes thumping away, as she jogs in and around the trees in the shady wooded area near the road. It’s a beautiful day, with the sun peaking through the foliage, and she’s feeling good.  Over the music, she hears a thump from…somewhere and stops, pulling the earbuds away and glancing around, curiously. Did she even hear something? Did it come from over th–

BANG. She is suddenly shot in the leg.  She collapses to the ground, her breath coming in panicked gulps. She clutches at her leg, the new ragged hole there leaking blood. And we will be right there with her for the next eleven terrifying minutes, trying to survive and avoid being killed as she is stalked through the woods.

Director Karim Shaker keeps things as tight as a drum throughout this short, and he is able to pack more suspense into its eleven-minute running time than almost any movie I’ve seen in the past few years. It’s a good, fun short with a few twists and some amazing acting by the targeted Monica Miranda. She is terrific, empathetic and resourceful, and then vulnerable and petrified as she is hunted to within an inch of her life.

This short is currently making the rounds (it just played ScreamFest last fall), so if you get a chance, by all means spare 0.183 of an hour and watch it. Uncle Mike commands it.  The trailer is below!
