Welcome Villain Films’ upcoming release, MALUM, has just been announced and fans of horror will be eagerly awaiting its nationwide theatrical release in Spring 2023. The film is the first original production of the genre studio and will be a reimagining of the critically acclaimed 2014 horror hit, LAST SHIFT.

Directed by Anthony DiBlasi, who also co-wrote the film with Scott Poiley, MALUM promises to be a terrifying experience for audiences. DiBlasi and Poiley are the same creative team behind LAST SHIFT, which is an indication that they know how to create a horror film that can get under the skin of viewers.

The film follows a rookie police officer who takes the last shift at a newly decommissioned police station in order to investigate the connection between her father’s death and a vicious cult. However, throughout the night she is confronted by terrifying supernatural events that reveal the twisted past of her family.

Although the film pays respect to its predecessor, it is not a shot-for-shot remake. Instead, it is a reimagining that aims to tell its own story with all the resources it requires. According to Dan Clifton, the producer of MALUM and Head of Production for Welcome Villain, the film is a much meaner, larger beast that cranks up the horror intensity to eleven.

The film features a cast that includes Jessica Sula in the lead role, along with Candice Coke, Chaney Morrow, Clarke Wolfe, and many more. Special effects make-up is handled by the team at RussellFX, which is a well-known name in the horror genre. The film was shot on location in a recently abandoned prison in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

The name MALUM means “evil” and “an offense against right or law” in some of the oldest languages in history, which is a perfect fit for the twisted, horrific themes of the film. Once audiences see the movie, they won’t soon forget the name MALUM.

Welcome Villain Films developed and produced the film and will distribute it domestically with a Spring 2023 nationwide theatrical release. Raven Banner is handling international sales and will be presenting the film at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Horror fans will definitely want to keep an eye out for MALUM, as it promises to be an unforgettable experience that will have them on the edge of their seats. The reimagining of LAST SHIFT has been given the resources and creative freedom to tell its own story, and fans can expect to be taken on a journey of terror that they won’t soon forget.
