The Make Believe Seattle Film Festival, renowned for its celebration of genre cinema, has officially announced the captivating opening and closing galas for its second-year edition taking place from March 21 to 26, 2024. The festival promises a diverse lineup that caters to genre enthusiasts, spotlighting horror, science fiction, fantasy, animation, and more.

Kicking off the festivities on Thursday, March 21, is the West Coast Premiere of the documentary “SHARI AND LAMB CHOP” directed by Lisa D’Apolito. Delving into the life of ventriloquist Shari Lewis, best known for her beloved sock puppets, the documentary promises a heartfelt exploration of the woman who forever changed the landscape of children’s television. Director Lisa D’Apolito is set to attend the screening, adding a personal touch to the evening.

Closing the festival on Sunday, March 24, is the Pacific Northwest Premiere of the French feature “HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON” directed by Ariane Louis-Seize. This coming-of-age vampire film, recognized at prestigious film festivals worldwide, follows Sasha, a sensitive vampire seeking an alternative to traditional bloodshed. Partnering with a suicidal boy, Sasha agrees to fulfill his wishes in exchange for becoming her willing victim.

The Make Believe Seattle Film Festival, founded and creatively directed by Billy Ray Brewton, takes pride in presenting a lineup that reflects personal experiences. Adding to the excitement, the festival has revealed two centerpiece screenings. On Friday, March 22, the World Premiere of “A MOST ATROCIOUS THING” from Giant Films takes center stage. This chilling cinematic creation explores the consequences of consuming infected deer meat, turning a group of friends into crazed, bloodthirsty maniacs. The filmmakers will be present for a Q&A session following the screening.

Saturday, March 23, brings the festival’s second centerpiece, “BONUS TRACK,” a British coming-of-age romantic comedy directed by Julia Jackman. Featuring Josh O’Connor from “The Crown,” this film portrays the warm and tender journey of George, a talented musician aspiring for stardom, and Max, the son of a musical duo, who takes an unexpected interest in George’s music.
