Six college kids find internet stardom when they make “Truth or Dare” videos with a violent twist. It is all fun and games until their number one fan decides he wants to play by his own rules.

Jessica Cameron‘s directorial debut, Truth or Dare is a nasty, grimy, piece of cinematic endurance that you just can’t look away from. A sextet of fame-obsessed internet stars that decide to really up the ante in their next Truth or Daredevils video. Known for their outlandish, staged violence and lurid confessionals they certainly have a reputation to live up to. Unfortunately, with their fame comes one particularly greasy superfan, Derik (Ryan Kiser) who believes all of their gory escapades to be 100% real. Nobody reads disclaimers these days anyway.

The plan is to set up in John’s (Jesse Wilson) new home, in the garage, and just go nuts. Along for the ride are the regulars Michelle (Heather Dorff), brother and sister Ray (Shelby Stehlin) and Courtney (Devanny Pinn), and the hilariously goofy Tony (Brandon Van Vliet). The group dons pajamas, sets up the cameras and gets ready to shoot their next live streaming hit. That’s when their fan arrives to join the fun.

Derik wants in on the fun and insists that the rules be adhered to. Wielding a gun he hosts an ultraviolet and totally real edition of their staged videos. As the film plays out the group is forced to divulge painful secrets better left untold and forced to endure inhumane acts of torture at gunpoint. Somehow though, the gore is taken to the extreme, taking it past realistic to absurd extremism and bordering on painfully hilarious.

Released by Invincible Pictures who notoriously released the uncensored “A Serbian Film” and most recently Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers”. The film is currently available in stores including Fye and Family Video, as well as online at Amazon, Barns and Noble, Best Buy and more.

Cameron said this about the release: “I am so thankful to work with Invincible Pictures on the release of my first film, Truth or Dare, which is very graphic in nature. Many distributors wanted to trim down the more graphic scenes for the release, and I did not want to see that happen. Invincible Pictures was excited about it s it was which was important to me. I am very excited for fans to get their hands on the release, which is my original cut not shown till now.”

Being a crowdfunded splatterfest, the film is not perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination. It is fun, and at times cringe-inducing with its gratuitous violence and Miike-esque audio moments. The praise comes in the conviction to deliver something that gets a response.

With a limited budget and minimal sets, a tense situation is crafted with a single location, words, and gallons of blood. It is sold by the ensemble of actors devoted Kiser  is a standout as Derik, the insane fan. Dorff also has some great, disturbing moments as Michelle. Cameron graciously hands the better moments to her actors and sits back to let them have their fun.

If you care about independent film and care about independent horror, support this film. It’s gooey, gory, and darkly hilarious.

The film was a part of a crowd fund campaign and all crowd fund campaign orders are being worked on and will be sent out shortly.

VOD and additional locations will be added over the next 2 months. All information, including where to buy the film, will be posted to the films facebook page: www.facebook.com/TruthOrDareTheMovie/
