A serial killer with sisterly issues is a devastatingly sad killer. After losing his sister to their father’s insanity, David O’Hara (Matthan Harris) becomes obsessed with creating a family of his own, by any means necessary. O’Hara is a medical student that occasionally finds women to rape and impregnate. He meets Melissa Daniels (Lindsay Hightower) and decides to impregnate her with his child. Melissa escapes and decides to keep the child. David disappears then comes back to claim his dysfunctional family, but he soon discovers having a family comes with a price.

The beginning of the film felt very rushed. I was bombarded by a lot of information very quickly. The conversations between character lasted a mere two to five lines, then the next scene would continue and that did not last long either. There was a lot of character background to cover before the real story could progress. David O’Hara is a very complex man. O’Hara character wanted a family and fast. At the pace the film was progressing I thought O’Hara would be killed an hour into the film. It could have ended half way through and it would make sense, but a much bigger plot was taking place. There were two films in one.

David O’Hara’s character was very well developed and you understood what he wanted but it was very hard to support him. He is a serial killer after all. David tried very hard to create a family then he destroyed it. He finally accepted his serial killer tendencies at the end and left to find a new family. There was absolutely no closure at the end. David O’Hara left his hunting ground to find a new one.

The story is interesting but was very much confused as to who David O’Hara was becoming. O’Hara’s father was a very interesting character that supported his son’s hobby. Melissa’s downward spiral into oblivion is a sad consequence of O’Hara’s mind games. David’s and Melissa’s story needed a much more profound narrative. Their relationship could have been split between two films: O’Hara’s downfall and Melissa’s pregnancy. Overall it was a fascinating film that tackled strong themes. Great performances from all the actors.
