IFC Films has announced its acquisition of rights to THE RENTAL, a new thriller and directorial debut from actor/fan favorite Dave Franco, co-written by Franco and Joe Swanberg. The film also stars Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Jeremy Allen White, and Sheila Vand. The Rental was produced and financed by Black Bear Pictures, with Franco, Elizabeth Haggard, Teddy Schwarzman, Ben Stillman, Swanberg and Christopher Storer serving as producers; Michael Heimler and Sean Durkin served as executive producers.

“We’re beyond excited to partner with Dave on his directorial debut,” says Arianna Bocco, EVP of Acquisitions and Productions at IFC. “He is a clear talent in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to bring this film to American audiences.”

The Rental follows two couples who embark on a weekend getaway to a seemingly perfect house they’ve booked online. But what begins as a celebratory weekend for the four close friends turns into something far more sinister as secrets they’ve kept from each other are exposed and they realize they may not be alone.

“I’ve admired the IFC brand and their films for as long as I can remember. I couldn’t be more excited about partnering with them for my directorial debut,” says Franco. “They have such a strong track record when it comes to elevated genre films, which makes them the perfect home for The Rental.”

IFC Films is set to release The Rental on July 24th, 2020 nationwide.

About the Author

From humble beginnings as a bisexual art kid who drank more coffee than a 40-year-old author, Remy now holds a BFA in Film Production from Chapman University and is a proud member of the HorrorBuzz team (and still a bisexual art kid who drinks too much coffee). They were first introduced to the world of horror and camp when their grandma showed them The Rocky Horror Picture Show at age 5, and never looked back. When they're not writing cartoons or working on movies, one can spot them in various clubs around Los Angeles performing very, very self-deprecating standup comedy. Howdy ho!
