GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics has announced Nathan Lane as its Timeless Star for 2022-23. The honor recognizes entertainers “whose exemplary career is marked by character, wisdom, and wit.” Lane joins a distinguished group of previous winners that includes Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda, and Sir Ian McKellen.

Diane Anderson-Minshall, GALECA’s President, stated, “Nathan Lane is an icon of stage and screen, a master of both drama and comedy, and GALECA is proud to recognize him for an undeniable career as one of the great forces in entertainment.” Lane’s recent work includes his 25th Broadway role in the family relationship dramedy, Pictures from Home. He is also set to star in several film projects, including Beau is Afraid alongside Joaquin Phoenix and the out-there original musical F—-ing Identical Twins with Bowen Yang and Megan Thee Stallion.

GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics is a group of over 400 journalists who cover film, TV, and Broadway/Off-Broadway. Members have been voting on their favorites in mainstream to LGBTQ+ film and television since 2009 through their Dorian Awards.

Lane said, “My great thanks to the members of GALECA for this lovely honor. I assume being a Timeless Star means my career has stood the test of time, and not that I don’t wear a watch—because I’m actually very punctual, an important part of being a professional. Seriously, thanks so much for thinking of me, and much love.”

GALECA members have expressed their admiration for Lane, with Out magazine and The Advocate’s Mey Rude stating, “Nathan Lane is a brilliant actor in that he could play any role, but no one but Nathan Lane could play Nathan Lane.” Queerty’s Cameron Scheetz added, “Nathan Lane showed us it was possible to be accepted, respected, and loved, simply by being ourselves.”
