Time has been shattered once again! Arrow Films has announced the cult film DONNIE DARKO will return to limited cities and theaters March 31st. DONNIE DARKO will premiere at the Vista in Los Angeles on March 30th and will officially open in Los Angeles at the Cinefamily and in New York at Metrograph on March 31st. Cancel all plans and mark your calendars!
DONNIE DARKO brings its eclectic cast and 80’s classic soundtrack back to theaters. The now-famous cast includes: Jake (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain, Nocturnal Animals) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (“The Honourable Woman”, The Dark Knight), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Neon Demon), the late heartthrob Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing, Ghost), Drew Barrymore (E.T., “Grey Gardens”, “Santa Clarita Diet”) Oscar nominees Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves, Passion Fish, “Battlestar Galactica”) and Katharine Ross (The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Stepford Wives), and television favorite Noah Wyle (“ER”, “Falling Skies”).
The 4K restoration of the film was produced by Arrow Films from the original camera negatives and supervised and approved by Kelly and cinematographer Steven Poster. After a successful premiered in 4k at the National Film Theatre in London on December 17, 2016, US audience get to see these peculiarly imaginative film!
Through a partnership with Cartilage Films, DONNIE DARKO will be presented in two version in select theaters: theatrical and Director’s cut. I say see both and never look back!
Los Angeles will not be the only cities premiering the film. DONNIE DARKO will also return for a week long run in Denver, Columbus, Pittsburg, Phoenix, and San Francisco on March 31st and in El Paso and Detroit April 7th. Get ready to take a classic 80’s music trip!
If you have absolutely no idea what DONNIE DARKO is you have been living under a rock, but that is fine because I am here to enlighten you. The film stars Donnie, (Jake Gyllenhaal) a troubled high school student who suffers from sleepwalking and is possessed by an imaginary six-foot rabbit friend named Frank. Frank informs Donnie the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. As he awaits the end of the world, Donnie will navigate teenage life, almost escape death, follow Frank’s messed up instructions and try to preserve the space-time continuum. Teenage life has never seemed easier.
DONNIE DARKO has become a dark cult classic that has entranced everyone over the span of its 15-year film life. Truly can not wait to see it in spectacular 4K!
