Yes! It’s now time to start tracking Knott’s Scary Farm and the progress on America’s original theme park haunt. It has been an interesting year for this park with major changes from within, the departure of a creative director, the shuffling of management, and a brand new General Manager in Disney veteran Jon Storbeck. Still, the park continues ahead, barreling into the best time of year, haunt season. Today we share with you what we know so far, what we can glean from our tour around the park, and we tell you how you can have the very best time at the biggest, baddest theme park haunt event in existence with the HorrorBuzz team.

Ghouls and boys it is time once again to return to the foggy, moldering streets of Ghost Town as we gather for the annual Knott’s Scary Farm Meet! In an annual tradition that is reaching its 9th year, HorrorBuzz will be leading a group through the granddaddy of haunts with the friendliest fiends around!

What makes going to this event different from just buying the tickets on your own? A LOT! We will start the day off at 2:00 in the afternoon. After checking in we will enjoy a backstage tour through the inner workings of Haunt. We will be walked through a maze before opening, with the lights on, by the designers themselves. Then we will feast on a private, all you can eat buffet!

After gorging on amazing Knott’s fried chicken dinner, roast beef, turkey, and boysenberry pie we will get early entry into Knott’s Scary Farm. Then the real fun begins. The world famous Maze Death March starts. Here we go through each and every maze in Knott’s Scary Farm as a group, because there is apparently safety in numbers. But we won’t have to wait in lines. Straight to the front of the priority access queue for everything. Yes the Skeleton Key rooms are included.

Of course we catch the Hanging and, at the end of the evening, we enjoy VIP, early entry into Elvira’s Dance Macabre show. No where else will you get VIP treatment like this for such a low price.

Inside the park, there are very few noticeable signs of Halloween just yet. Still in the dead of summer, the park is careful to not drop hints of the impending monsters and fog. We know where to look though and we are headed in!

Wilderness Lodge

As per current management’s desire to keep the day and night shows as distinctly pronounced as possible, much of the construction is hidden from view.  We see here preparations have begun at the Wilderness lodge for maze installation. The windows have been blacked out and, behind the building, flats of wood have been staged.

Xcelerator Location

At the regular maze location ear Xcelerator, we see that Black Magic is not coming back. That is, of course, unless it is being changed drastically. Here we see a courtyard with what appears to be asian inspired designs in the front. and a very tall, expanded pathway outback.

Dead of Winter Location

Nothing has been officially announced for the Boardwalk Ballroom, the home of last years bland, Dead of Winter maze. Knowing that Knotts usually keeps a maze for three years, we can only assume that this frigid walkthrough is returning. Let us pray to the Ice Queen that it is considerably revamped and ramped up.

Fiesta Village Location

There is some visible construction happening in the former location of Windseeker. As we learned from the panel discussion at Midsummer Scream, there will be four Skeleton Key rooms scattered throughout the park instead of them being tacked on to existing mazes. What’s more, the themes will be original ideas that stand on their own.

We don’t know which of the four Skeleton Key Rooms this will be just yet, but when we find out we will let you  know.

Gunslinger’s Grave Location

So far, there is nothing happening just yet in the Gunslinger’s Grave location. As we noticed the Grand Sierra Railroad is still fully operational at the moment

Camp Snoopy

Speaking of Camp Snoopy, we wandered through and something backstage caught our eye. Tucked off to the side of the Camp Snoopy Theatre, behind the walls, was, what appeared to be dark scenic elements.  Is this a maze? Is it a Skeleton Key?

IMG_0067

We think it is a Skeleton key for a number of reasons. To begin with the wooden flats that are up now are fully painted black. these are much further along than the other construction sites.

What has us guessing Skeleton Key room is the fact that, from outside the park we can see that the rest of the construction area is pretty empty.

Backstage Speculation

Of course we already know that Trick or Treat, Voodoo, Tooth Fairy, and the new Infected: Black Ops were all announced. Of course, we really can’t see much of the construction as it is all backstage and only visible though the fences backstage. The good news is that, while hinted at, it is safe to assume that one of the very best mazes from 2015 is coming back.

That just about wraps everything up for us in a nice, neat little package. We are still awaiting a number of Halloween Haunt announcements as the upcoming press and fan event is coming up soon.
