Late last year, some folks began to receive strange messages over Instagram, ultimately leading them to the entering the surreal dream that was Fear Is What We Learned Here, the first interactive experience from Screenshot Productions. If you remember my review of it, I found it to be one of the most amazingly unique things I had ever done, and I anxiously awaited whatever they had next in store for us.

That time is now. They are inviting us all back into the darkness with Parturition, an “an intensely personal, immersive journey through the beginning stages of the human experience.”

For those interested, this 25-30 minute experience will be taken alone over January 28 through 31 in North Hollywood. Much like the veil of secrecy the first time around, you will find out more information, and its location, after you purchase your tickets.

However, this time, Screenshot Productions has released a bit more information about their latest show…

‘Parturition’ is not a haunt. At the same time, the birthing process, as well as life in general, is filled with darkness and elements of horror, so just because is not classified as such, don’t expect an entirely peaceful experience. Without giving too much away, as with our last production ‘Fear is What We Learned Here,’ we are interested in exploring the psychology surrounding a particular topic/emotion and hope that attendees are not only immersed and entertained in going through the experience, but take away powerful insights into the human experience that they can then apply to their day-to-day life.

I am incredibly excited for this. After their first experience in October, with its relative simplicity, yet powerful imagery, I was enthralled. What they had created really blew me away. Now, it seems that they are taking it up a few notches, and bringing more to the experience.

Screenshot Productions, while relatively new, has a fantastic mission statement. From its creative director, Nicholas Sherwin Jr, Screenshot Productions is a “newly formed, immersive installation collective with a long-term vision to establish a year-round immersive experience culture here in Los Angeles.”

The company has been inspired by the collaborative, immersive scene in New York and hopes to bring something similar to the west coast. However, they don’t simply wish to replicate existing models for what constitutes an immersive production, but instead forge ahead with their own take on where they think the industry can go. The vision is to continually push what an immersive experience can be and what audience members can get out of it, always with an agenda for the productions staged. The hope is that each art installation created by Screenshot taps into universal human emotions in some meaningful way and that the art has a genuine emotional impact on those who attend.

Tickets for Parturition are on sale now at www.whatwelearnedhere.com.

I highly suggest, especially if you missed out on Fear Is What We Learned Here, that you check out Parturition. You will not be disappointed.
