The Sundance Film Festival is fast approaching and excitement is in the air. The festival, the largest and one of the most prestigious indie film festivals in the US, will be held this year from Thursday, January 23 to Sunday, February 2, 2020. A integral part of the festival is the presence of the Blackhouse Foundation, planning to make its 13th return to the famous film festival. The Foundation will have events and panels during Sundance from January 24-27, 2020.
The Blackhouse Foundation is an organization that has prided itself on media representation for black artists and content creators by providing opportunities in various mediums for budding artists. In addition to opportunity creation, The Blackhouse Foundation has made it their mission to create a network of support, community, and education for those interested in the entertainment industry.
This year, The Blackhouse Foundation is teaming up with Facebook for the third time with their “SEEN” program which supports overlooked and underrepresented talent in the film industry. Workshops will be held to promote black filmmakers and their stories all throughout the festival.
The Blackhouse Foundation returns to the Filmmaker Lodge with several programs and speakers. Past guests include the likes of Ice-T, Harry Belafonte, and several other leading men and women in television and film.  When commenting on the representation of Sundance 2020, The Blackhouse Foundation co-founder Brickson Diamond says, “The line-up is more diverse than ever. We count 55 film, episodic, VR and live performance projects with black directors, subject matter and/or cast included in the 2020 Sundance Film Festival programming. This represents yet another record and a beautiful trajectory from the seven programmed black films that accompanied our first year at Sundance in 2007. We couldn’t be more excited about or proud of our community and the Sundance team.” This speaks volumes about the direction that the television and film industry is heading in and may this trend continue thanks to the hard work of foundations like The Blackhouse.
As the festival approaches, The Blackhouse Foundation will be announcing panels, discussions, programs, events, and other gatherings that are to be highlighted during the festival. There is Blackhouse Festival 2020 App available on the Apple app store. The app includes the most up-to-date information regarding the programming to be hosted by The Blackhouse at Sundance. As in years prior, attendees can expect a surprise guest and 4 days of cultural immersion.
