The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies in New York City is proud to present a night of education with film collector, programmer, and preservationist Joe Rubin who also founded Vinegar Syndrome with Ryan Emerson in 2012.

The class will dive into the basic problems and challenges that come with film preservation and will focus specifically on genre films. Some of the topics in this class include film decay and restorative processes, format-specific preservation techniques, the role of home video (and specifically Vinegar Syndrome) in the preservation of genre films, viewer expectations in the digital age, as well as a general overview of the methodologies by which Vinegar Syndrome selects films for restoration and release.

A good portion of the class will primarily focus on Joe Rubin’s lecture but will leave enough time to ask any questions you may have.

NOTE: prior to the course date, if anyone had specific questions or topics of interest related to genre film preservation or Vinegar Syndrome itself, please submit them for potential inclusion in the general lecture.
