UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to complications, this event was cancelled. In a statement emailed to customers they wrote…

Los Angeles—GORLESQUE! THE HAUNTED BURLESQUE (Gorlesque!) announces that it must cancel its upcoming spring preview haunt called INWARDFriday, May 13Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15 due to  a complication with its insurance coverage.

With more time to accommodate the requirements of the insurance company for the fantastic location for Gorlesque!, the schedule will resume in October for the Halloween season.

Gorlesque! will also present a preview at Midsummer ScreamJuly 30 & 31, 2016 at the Long Beach Convention Center.

First of all, we would like to offer our regret and support to the Gorlesque! team.  Creating and executing a haunt is tremendously difficult.  Many things that can close a haunt are things that the customer never once has to think about.  In this case, it would be another insurance problem.  The Gorlesque! team has done right by not putting their customers at risk by running an event without the proper safety precautions in place.

This raises a question though. Why is insurance becoming a problem for haunts? If you remember, Blackout Haunted House had to cancel their 2016 off season event because they were essentially being held hostage by their insurance provider. Is this just a coincidence or is this a growing trend by insurance companies hoping to take advantage of haunts?  We sincerely hope that the rest of 2016 can be pulled off without anymore hitches.

Until then, Here’s to Midsummer Scream!

unnamed-7Hey folks! Halloween is coming a little early this year with an all-new, sexy haunted horror experience called GORLESQUE!
 THE HAUNTED BURLESQUE

Gorlesque! launches an all-new, short-run, experience for L.A.’s scare fans called INWARD, beginning Friday, May 13Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15 with a special preview night on Thursday, May 12. Coupled with the alluring haunted attraction is a burlesque show. INWARD is a mind-altering “haunted house”-style walkthrough experience with the sexy climax of a performance finale.

The experience promises a look into the twisted mind of the fictional late German scientist Dr. Weltschmerz, a man with a troubled past, a taste for beautiful women and an obsession with perfection. Long after his death, his followers formed “The Weltzie Society” to celebrate the teachings of the good doctor. Creepy perfection-obsessed “Weltzies” are the “hosts” for the evening.

Guests take a 20- to 30-minute journey through a magical “portal” that serves as a window into Dr. Weltschmerz’s psyche, illustrating what made him the creepy scientist he became.  Guests experience first-hand events from the doctor’s past, including jarring moments during puberty, the captive followers he keeps in cages and the disturbing operating room where Dr. Weltschmerz ultimately created his “perfect beings.”

unnamed-8At the conclusion of the walkthrough, guests are treated to an undead dance troupe lead by the renowned L.A. burlesque company Victory Variety Hour, performing classic burlesque on stage in a speakeasy-style setting.  Guests are treated to three shows scheduled over the course of the evening.

The Gorlesque! team, led by creators Pete Metzger and Wes Oakley, have years of experience producing haunted and Halloween events, live shows, short films and music videos.  Their design of INWARD takes the public out of their comfort zone in a more cerebral way rather than with just “jump out at you” scares.  Special effects used in the “portal” distort the perception of gravity and reality, affecting visibility and balance and leaving the guest feeling appropriately unsettled.

“Most of the haunts in L.A. rely on gore to scare the guests,” says Pete. “We wanted to create an experience that’s a lot sexier and weird, but still a scary good time.”

unnamed-5Pete and Wes were inspired by their own horror fan memories and favorite female archetypes like Blade Runner’s Pris and Heavy Metal’s Taarna.  Rather than the clichéd innocent-but-sexy-co-ed victim, Gorlesque! turns the tables by making the female characters the monsters.  “The screaming girl is the reason we’re screaming!” Wes says.

Following INWARD, Gorlesque! will launch the second chapter of Dr. Weltschmerz’s world with a month-long Halloween experience called PARADISE in October 2016.  The Gorlesque! team will be exhibiting at Monsterpalooza at the Pasadena Convention Center April 22-24, 2016 and at Midsummer Scream at the Long Beach Convention center, July 30-31, 2016. Special ticket offer for all Monsterpalooza attendees is available at the Gorlesque! booth.
