Halloween weekend was filled with fun, fright, and one hell of a party from none other than Drunken Devil. On October 29, they held The Witches’ Ball: A Halloween Bacchanal, an evening that took inspiration from clandestine gatherings, pagan culture, and of course, the 70s.

Held on the fifth floor of the gorgeous Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center, the Drunken Devil entertained guests with a night of dancing, performances, and of course, drinking. Matt Dorado, creator of the devilish proceedings, first began his career last year, putting on a haunt in the Think Tank Gallery. At the end of said haunt, guests were able to enjoy some drinks in a lounge area. Seeing how wildly successful that was, Dorado continued to put on fantastic parties over the last year, like the amazing L’Enfer. Returning to Halloween was only natural for him, as the Witches’ Ball was a huge success.

Guests arrived starting at 9, many of them wearing fantastic costumes to get into the spirit of things. They were able to mingle and get their drink on for an hour or so before the performances began. It was then that we were treated to a whole host of interesting entertainment.

Scarlette Fox, returned to the Drunken Devil stage for the fourth time in a row, and dazzled guests with burlesque and a blood-pouring ceremony that none of us will ever forget. The Rigomortettes, a duo of dancers who perform with acid doom rock band Old Blood, will brought their phantasmagorical movement art to the event, with a glowing hula hoop and more. Matt Scott of Rasputin’s Marionettes enchanted us with marionette performances featuring Jack the Ripper and tiki madness. And finally, Go-Go Amy, of the Pretty Things Peepshow, will enticed the crowd with a series of burlesque and decadent vaudevillian acts that kept all eyes on her.

After, the music continued to play, the alcohol continues to flow, and the dancing began. We danced until the wee hours of the morning, forgetting the world outside, and celebrating the Halloween Holiday season as it was meant to be. Of course, the Drunken Devil himself mingled amongst the crowd, encouraging us to be on our worst behavior, and have the time of their lives.

Dorado, and Drunken Devil, truly throw fantastic parties that quite honestly should not be missed. While Drunken Devil has evolved since its initial inception, they have definitely found their niche. Be sure to check out their next event, which I hear will be a hell of a time in the style of New Orleans fare…
