With Season 3 of Twin Peaks quickly approaching, I’ve decided to reflect back on seasons 1 & 2 along with Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and the feature length deleted scenes compilation: Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces.  Twin Peaks is my FAVORITE show of all time and I want to share with all of you my take on the show, my feelings then and now, and my theories as Season 3 plays out this year.  These articles will be SPOILER heavy so if you’ve never seen the show, stop reading and watch it now.

Where to even begin! I am still in awe that there will even be a Season 3 of this show (premiering on Showtime Sunday May 21 at 9 pm.)  I sit here listening to composer Angelo Badalamenti’s incredible soundtrack and reflecting back on having just watched Season 1 again this past weekend. Now 27 years older than the first time I saw it, I am still taken in by the look of the show. The cinematic way it’s filmed and edited continue to impress me.  I find myself falling in love again with Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan)…along with pretty much every other character.

One of my favorite aspects of this show are the character themes and the overall score that underlines so many pivotal scenes.  Laura Palmer’s theme fits the character so well where it goes from bright to dark so seamlessly and sets just the right tone and feeling pertaining to who Laura (Sheryl Lee) was; a troubled and haunted girl. Badalamenti is genius in capturing the essence of the characters and this small town.

The first time I watched Twin Peaks, I had no interest in it. It was the ABC Sunday Night Movie and my mom really wanted to watch because: 1. She grew up in a small Northwest Town and 2. She’s a big fan of actor Michael Ontkean (Sheriff Harry S Truman.)  By then end of the pilot, I was hooked.  I asked my mom when this was going to be on again. Within that 2 hours, this show had changed who I was going to be in my life. And I am so glad that it did!

Being almost 16 years old and discovering the world of David Lynch was an awakening indeed. Before this I had no idea who he was. I was mesmerized by this story line of a small town where the homecoming queen is murdered. Her body found by the water, naked and wrapped in plastic. I mean this is how the show starts off?  I have never seen a show like this before.  This is fantastic story telling! I am in all the way!

With watching the show again, I find that this show still captures my attention. Also it is so easy to binge. A lot of what I recall happening on the show, things seemed to take a long time to get to when first watching, is all there within the first four or five episodes.  I am talking Albert Rosenfield, fish in the percolator, Tibet.  I am talking “Diane, I’m holding in my hand a small box of chocolate bunnies.”  I can’t wait for the new season to begin. And I can’t wait to share all of this with you.
