So. After last week’s cluster-eff of blood and violence, we start off this penultimate episode with some young men and women walking around the forest, recording everything with mounted GoPro cameras.  They are fans/bloggers/YouTubers with an insatiable desire to find the actual house that they’ve been writing about and obsessing over since My Roanoke Nightmare first aired.

They walk along, discussing the finer points of the show, and they see an injured, bloody woman in the distance. She runs off and they give chase, presumably to help her. She soon outruns them, mumbling something about her car, and disappearing into the woods. They find a mangled car, obviously been in an accident, and are startled to find that the woman they’ve been chasing is actually stuck in the car, dead.

Back at the house, Dylan has shown up pretending to be the PigMan, and claims Sidney hired him to do it, leaving specific instructions: Be here at this time, no phones, film everything. He compliments Lee on her prosthetic makeup; it really looks like her ear’s been cut off.  Audrey blows up at him and screams about all the people they know who are all dead: Sidney, Dominic, Shelby, Rory. They’re all dead.

They take Dylan upstairs to survey the damage. He looks at the bodies of Dominic and Shelby, then suddenly becomes Mr. Get Things Done.  They need a stretcher for Lee, and they need to march on out of there before dark. He was in Afghanistan for two tours, and on Seal Team 10. No man (or woman) gets left behind.

But Monet is still at the Polk’s place, along with cars and guns. So, they all head downstairs for a field trip.

Meanwhile, at the police station, the kids from earlier are trying to convince the officer that they’re on the level, they really did see a dead body, even though that body is now missing.  We see them all freaking out on the video they shot back at the accident site, and them trying to explain themselves to the police.

Back in the woods the sun is going down, and Audrey, Lee, and Dylan are sneaking up on the Polk’s place, trying to come up with a plan (even though this is supposed to be at night, it looks like these scenes were shot day-for-night, and a few sunlight flares on the lens are kind of distracting–end digression). Dylan is going to start up the truck, Audrey is going to find Monet, and Lee is going to look for the camera with the incriminating footage.

They all succeed, buuuuut: Dylan gets stabbed while he’s in the truck, and Audrey and Monet are confronted by the older Polk who’s going to kill them. At least that’s what he admits on camera just before Audrey shoots him to death with the gun she found.

Lee comes out of the barn to see the younger Polk finishing off Dylan. She warns him that she has all the evidence, but he looks off in the distance and gets scared.  “They coming! Cain’t nobody protect us now!” he wails. Off in the distance are, yes, torches lighting up the dark. He hops in the truck and takes off. Audrey and Monet see the torches coming and freak out.  They run off–right back to the house.

Really?

More screaming and crying about their situation, and about Dylan: “He was in the bloody military and he’s dead!”  They surmise that Lee, too, must be dead because Audrey has the precious tape of evidence and Lee would never have left it behind. They watch the tape. And see Lee’s confession about murdering her ex-husband. Audrey and Money react appropriately.

While the audio of her confession plays, we see the current view of the woods (courtesy of some of Sidney’s cameras, I presume?). Lee is crawling along, struggling to move. A boar is seeing sniffing around her, then suddenly is dragged back with a big squeal.  The real creepy wood witch woman offers the boar’s heart to Lee and she bites right into it without hesitation.

The three YouTubers are back in the woods, trying to get more footage, now that they know something weird is going on around here.  They are quite happy to learn that, within an hour of posting their last video, they’ve gained 22,000 followers! And are trending on Twitter! Good for them!

They see Lee in the distance and slowly approach her. They gently ask if she needs any help and she looks at them, and then slashes and stabs at the closest one. He drops to the ground. Dead, I’d think. The other two scream and run (there’s a lot of screaming and running in this show). They scream and run and run and scream. They stop to catch their breaths and–uh oh–the trees are filled with the little Blair Witch stick figures.

They soon find the production trailer, and the bodies there. More freaking out.  They lock themselves into the trailer.  Then, in a delicious piece of meta-irony, they YouTubers watch the TV screens as the characters they’ve come to know in the first season interact (or are dead). When Monet (onscreen) contemplates having a drink, the girl watching says out loud , “No! You need a clear head!” Then they see Lee heading towards the house. They’re helpless.

The two of them try to call the police, but the police (naturally) don’t believe them. More pranks from fans, they assume.

They decide to risk everything by leaving the trailer and going to warn Audrey and Monet about Lee. Back at the house, Monet and Audrey are in the bedroom, drinking, and deciding what to do. Go to the police? Look for Lee? Crash from downstairs!  Looks like Lee might have come looking for you.

They leave the bedroom and–whaddayaknow?–Lee is standing at the top of the stairs looking up at the ceiling, the stars, the sky, the blood moon. She turns to them and, in a voice that is not entirely her own, growls, “You don’t belong here. Your vile presence defiles this sacred ground.” Well, Monet is about to cut a bitch. She goes off on Lee, calling her a murderer and saying she’s not afraid of her and her stupid little cleaver. Lee turns and pushes Monet over the railing and down onto the chandelier two floors below. Monet is impaled.

Audrey screams and runs downstairs, with Lee close behind. They tussle and fight and stab, and Audrey injures Lee a bit. Audrey makes it out of the house. But just as she is about to head down to the secret cellar, Lee chops her with the cleaver and pushes her down the ladder. Ouch.

The video kids see the house in the distance, but they’re approaching it from behind. They need to go around to the front.  But before they do, they watch horrified as poor Dylan is disemboweled, his intestines spilling out in front of him. Yuck. The two kids are finally ready to leave and LEE IS RIGHT BEHIND THEM!

A title card tells us that the following footage was recovered from an iCloud account, and that it is raw and unedited. It contains violent, graphic, and disturbing images.

Here we go.

The two YouTubers are dragged towards the torchbearers and, one by one, a large pointed stake is shoved roughly up inside them, and then they are hoisted up, impaled on the stake. And then burned.  They are still alive for a few horrible minutes as their GoPros record their last painful moments on earth.

The next day. NOW the cops show up.

We see body cam footage of different police officers as they investigate the crime scene. There are bodies upon bodies. It’s a horrible sight.  Someone vomits.

One officer goes over to a body and–it’s Lee! She wakes up and looks scared and crazed. She screams. “Get me out of this hell hole!” They hustle her into the back of a car. Wait–who is this off in the distance? It’s Audrey! She survived! Lee sees her and is so really and truly grateful that she’s alive. But Audrey sees Lee and remembers what she did. Audrey pulls out a cop’s gun and takes aim at Lee and–

–Audrey goes down in a hail of bullets from the other officers.  She’s gone.

Only one more episode left. Only Lee left. Will Return to Roanoke come back for another season? Let’s find out next time!
