Just a day after delivering the disturbing title sequence, American Horror Story: Cult gives us the premise in a brand new trailer. Using the traumatic and polarizing 2016 election night as a springboard for the insanity, We see Ally Mayfair Richards (Sarah Paulson) screaming in horror as Donald Trump is elected President of the United States. Meanwhile Kai Anderson (Evan Peters) is screaming in orgasmic delight while humping his flat screen at the news of a republican victory.

The nights events triggers uncontrollable phobias in Richards who seeks the help of her psychiatrist (Cheyenne Jackson) as she suffers from increasing coulrophobia. Meanwhile Anderson and his girlfriend (Billie Lourd) conspire to drive the woman insane. First by having Lourd infiltrat her support system as a baby sitter then by bringing her charge a Twisty the Clown figure.

Series creator, Ryan Murphy has been quoted as saying, ““[AHS Season 7 is] about illuminating and highlighting people who don’t have a voice in our culture — people who are ignored by the current administration and who are afraid and feel terrorized that their lives are going to be taken away.” It will be fascinating to see where Murphy takes the story but our hope is that neither side of the issue is ignored. Dangerous territory for a T.V. show to jump into but Murphy is no stranger to risk taking.

Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, and star in American Horror Story: Cult, which returns to FX on September 5th.
