Valarian and the City of a Thousand Planets is obviously a lifelong passion project for Luc Besson.  A forty year old graphic novel property.  Besson fell in love with the series and actually wanted to make it before his Sci-Fi epic “The Fifth Element”, but the technology didn’t exist to realize his full vision at the time.    Finally, inspired by the same digital technology James Cameron utilized on the movie“Avatar,”  Besson has spent the last several years in development and production to build an entire new future universe for the screen, but stresses what attracted him to the stories in the first place was the everyday married relationship of the two protagonists Laureline and Valerian.  To introduce the world to the concepts, characters, and Besson’s obvious love for the property the studio has released a short this week in theaters.  In it you get a glimpse of some amazing footage of what to expect when the movie hits theaters next month (July)
