The universe has a funny way of sending moments of relief from the often chaotic current that we call life. Twin Knife Productions’ TAXI proved to be the perfect balance of respite and rumination after a relentlessly brutal week. TAXI left me feeling reposeful and ready to conquer whatever life wanted to throw at me next.

Twin Knife Productions was started in December of 2020 by Mells Magyor-Phillips and Eli Magyor. They have created and collaborated on numerous successful immersive experiences, including LoveLocked and F*ck The Mouse. When Twin Knife Productions announced TAXI, I was ecstatic to see where this ride would take me.

Touted as a feel-good immersive experience, TAXI allows 1-2 participants to “ride” a taxi from the Progress Taxi Company. TAXI is held entirely on Discord and is a text-based roleplaying experience. The audio call function of Discord is brilliantly used as the taxi’s radio during the ride. The participant(s) have the option to specify where they would like to go or leave the destination completely up to the driver.

For my TAXI ride, I requested that the destination be wherever the driver wanted to take us. At the start of my experience, I met my taxi driver, Tiny. Tiny was the perfect guide for my virtual ride through the streets of a city and up into the quaint mountains above it. She expertly navigated both the roads and matters of the heart with ease and compassion. Between Tiny and the taxi itself, TAXI boasted strong characters that contributed immensely to the overall experience. There were moments where it seemed like the taxi was alive itself, and I absolutely adored that detail.

Overall, I immensely enjoyed TAXI. This was easily the most enjoyable (and cheapest!) taxi ride I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I was set up to easily suspend my belief and immerse myself in this world, all over Discord. My decision to leave the destination up to fate proved to be just the journey my soul needed. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this show and highly recommend checking out TAXI if you are looking for a pleasant, roleplaying immersive experience.

Tickets are $25 for one participant and $45 for two participants. Spots to ride the TAXI are announced periodically via Twin Knife Productions’ Instagram and Facebook.
