Developer 11 bit studios is excited to announce that city-building survival game Frostpunk is officially available on Mac OS alongside its Steam counterpart! Fans have been awaiting this moment for what feels like ages at this point, and now the accessibility to those playing on Mac is a welcome addition.

The game was initially released for Steam in April 2018, but was later made available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2019.

In the words of Aleksander Kauch, Senior Engineering Lead at 11 bit studios:

“You could say that today hell finally freezes over. Delivering Frostpunk to macOS users took us much more time than initially planned. We are grateful for the patience and all the support we received from our community along the way. And we firmly believe that the wait was worth it.”

Alongside its release on macOS, three expansions are available now as well. Two of the expansions broaden the lore and story of the Frostpunk universe and one adds new features to the game:

  • The Last Autumn serves as a prequel story, set before New London’s rise told in the base game.
  • On The Edge continues the story where the original Frostpunk ended.
  • The Rifts adds a new endless mode map and a new constructible structure The Bridge.

Set in an alternate-history late 19th century, players assume the role of “The Captain,” responsible for building and maintaining an entire city during the midst of a global volcanic winter. Create and use laws to regulate productivity in this new society, harvest resources to maintain the citizens’ health and survival, or even implement a religion for those to follow. The decisions are entirely up to the player to choose.

Frostpunk is available on the Mac App Store for $29.99 currently, as well as the following:

  • Steam: $29.99 – though currently on sale for $10.19 through March 3rd, 2021
  • PlayStation Store: $29.99 – though currently on sale for $11.99 through March 10th, 2021
  • Xbox One: $29.99 – though currently included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
