Welcome to the dystopian future! A new cyberpunk-themed game has entered the chat: Glitchpunk. Described by Developer Dark Lord and Publisher Daedalic Entertainment as having an old-school GTA 2 vibe, this top-down action game is set to be released in 2021.

Synopsis: In Glitchpunk, you play as a glitching android, fighting against not only your own programming, but also hoards of drug-crazed gangs, overly aggressive police authority, and completely irresponsible drivers that will make each and every playthrough entirely unpredictable and exciting. Stealing cars and fighting enemies with a wide variety of both melee and long-range weapons is the very beginning, however; this game also delves into a narrative about transhumanism, xenophobia, and religion. As you influence the world around you, players may find themselves making unexpected friends, blowing things up as you fight enemies, or possibly find love.

Some key features of Glitchpunk include:

  • Brutal top-down action with a massive arsenal of weapons to choose from
  • Hacking system allowing players to control minds of pedestrians and affect various devices.
  • Many different ways of locomotion, including trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and obviously tons of cars
  • Frantic police chases and up to 10 escalations of mayhem-inducing wanted levels
  • 12 gangs with their own stories, quests, and culture
  • 4 different cities, from the desert remains of the USA to cyberpunk Soviet Russia in a post-nuclear winter
  • Mature story with several endings
  • Rare art style mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment
  • In-game radio with music by artists from all over the world, together with news stations and absurd commercials

Glitchpunk Announcement Trailer

Short and [not-so] sweet with gameplay footage, this trailer definitely focuses on the combat side of things, while also showing off some of the brief dialogue we may or may not encounter in future playthroughs. The graphics are bright, and just as the trailer describes, we’re drowning in neon with the high contrast of the dark undertones.

Glitchpunk is set to enter Early Access on Steam in the first half of 2021, and we here at HorrorBuzz are certainly excited to give this game a spin.
