The Reanimator is back and looking better than ever in Cullen Bunn’s new comic sequel to the classic Lovecraft story! Though some may be more familiar with the 80’s Jeffrey Combs vehicle of the same name, Reanimator: The Eternal Lie picks up just as the original story left off– with West presumed dead–and connects the character with the broader Cthulhu mythos.

From the creators: Though he’s presumed dead at the end of Lovecraft’s original tale, nothing can keep the mad scientist Herbert West down. He’s back and with his reanimation serum stolen, he must travel to the infamous town of Innsmouth, home to degenerate townsfolk and dark gods alike. This story is full of monsters, scares, and surprises for both longtime Lovecraft disciples and new readers. It will kill off all expectations for what readers think they know about Herbert West, only to reanimate them with something new and terrifying.

Reanimator: The Eternal Lie is available for preorder only on Indiegogo— at the time of writing there are twenty days left in the campaign, but the comic has already blown well past its initial goal. That could have something to do with the powerhouse creative team behind the book– writer Cullen Bunn has previously contributed to several Marvel series, but is perhaps best known for his work on acclaimed horror series Harrow County. Artist Blacky Shepherd has previous credits across the 80’s revival spectrum ranging from G.I. Joe to Transformers, with notable horror titles like Pumpkinhead: Sins Revisited and Vampirella Vs Reanimator under his belt.

“There have been so many incarnations of Herbert West, but we’ve been given the opportunity to take the character back to formula, if you’ll pardon the pun,” said Cullen Bunn. “This story finds West in the 1920s, not long after the conclusion of the original short story. From there, we were able to go in some sinister new directions I think readers will love.”

Artist Blacky Shepherd added, “As a lifelong fan of the visceral horror that you get with Reanimator, and the cosmic dread of the rest of the Lovecraft mythos, the chance to stitch the two together, as written by one of the Modern Masters of the Macabre was too exciting. This story gives me everything I love in a horror story and dials it up to 13!”

There are all kinds of related goodies you can get ahold of through the Indiegogo campaign. In addition to the book and its 4 variant covers, fans can find everything from branded syringe pens to Blacky Shepherd character drawings. There’s even a Reanimator Board Game and the option to order professionally graded issues for the most hardcore of collectors. The turn-around time for this campaign is short, too– the 48-page book has already been written, penciled, and inked, and it looks like every tier of backer rewards is set to ship in April, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Head on over to the Indiegogo campaign and be sure to secure your copy of Reanimator: The Eternal Lie!
