Arrow Video has announced the list of feature films coming to its subscription-based “Arrow Video Channel” this August. Among the slew of titles making their debut is the action-packed black-and-white nautical nightmare Lake Michigan Monster.
Synopsis: On the shores of Lake Michigan, the eccentric Captain Seafield enlists a colorful crew of misfits in a bid to slay the hellish sea monster that prowls the murky depths. But as Seafield’s obsession with exacting revenge on the creature that killed his father threatens to consume him, can weapons expert Sean Shaughnessy, sonar whiz Nedge Pepsi and former N.A.V.Y. (Nautical Athletes and Venture Yunit) officer Dick Flynn hold the show together?
This film looks glorious. It’s The Life Aquatic meets The Lighthouse meets Creature from the Haunted Sea. It knows how ridiculous it is which makes it all the more charming. A fabulous freakish combination of elements that produce one excellent eccentric result. This one is definitely on the watch list.
Lake Michigan Monster has been well received on the festival circuit and recipient of several awards. The film brought home the Gold Audience Award for Best International Film at Fantasia, snagged the Best Visual Effects award at FilmQuest, and scored the Best Ensemble Cast Award at GenreBlast. Written, directed by, and staring Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, Lake Michigan Monster is a wacky, self-aware, irreverent homage to the timelessly classic monster subgenre.
In addition to Lake Michigan Monster, the uncut version of Tenebrae and Stephen King’s Children of the Corn are also among the films making their first appearance on the channel. Here is a full list of the August releases and where the film is available for streaming:
