Universal Studios Hollywood has a RATtacular party planned to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the “Year of the Rat”. The entire park with be infused and enriched with wonderful aspects of this important cultural holiday. The event will begin this Thursday, January 23, and run through Sunday, February 9. And the best part? All Lunar New Year festivities and experiences are included with park admission!

The main hub for all Lunar New Year festivities will take place in Universal Plaza, in the heart of the theme park. Traditional Chinese Lanterns will light up the sky amid stunning Wishing Trees (plum blossoms). Guests can discover the 12 zodiac signs and they attributes associated with each animal.

Guests can also interact with some of Universal’s residents as they don their Lunar New Year fineries. Po and Tigress from the exciting Kung Fu Panda Adventure attraction will be available for photos. Guests can learn how to draw Po and take home their new drawing as a special keepsake. Select days will also feature traditional lion dances and cultural performances. And back by popular demand, Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop will be serving up some of the most delicious culturally themed dishes. Mr. Ping himself will also be present for interaction and special photo opportunities.

Hello Kitty will also make an appearance during the festival. Stepping out in her fashionable attire just for the Lunar New Year! Hello Kitty will be available for photos and interaction in the Animation Studio Store. Mischievious Minions can be seen entertaining guests as they proudly sport their brightly colored traditional Lunar New Year attire. Even the Transformers are getting into the spirit! Megatron will be awaiting your arrival at the entrance to the seasonal festival and will be speaking Mandarin and interacting with guests, engaging in real-time conversation. Throughout operating days during the festival, the Studio Tour will be offered in Mandarin during select tour times. In-language maps will also be made available to guests.

The party doesn’t stop in the park, guests wishing to continue the celebration can visit Universal City Walk’s Dongpo Kitchen. This modern restaurant features Sichuan cuisine and is inspired by China’s famous Meizhou Dongpo restaurant and features a variety of signature dishes. Casual dining meets trendy al fresco seating.
