Asian Girls is a short film that wears its inspiration on its sleeve. From stark imagery to the industrial soundtrack. At a very brisk 7 minutes long, don’t expect character growth or in-depth conversations. In fact, don’t expect dialog spoken of any kind. I don’t say this as a negative. I feel that with its short runtime, not wasting any of it on pointless talking. It is one of the deliberate actions chosen by Director Hyun Lee and it’s better for it.

While the cinematography and direction were well done, the rest of Asian Girls suffered from something far worse than nightmares or ghosts. It was boring. There have been short films that can stand against full-length films in terms of scares and productions, unfortunately, this is not one of those examples. I found myself waiting for something to happen or for the credits to roll, whichever came first.

Being that this is only Hyun Lee’s second time as a director, they show talent. Though that talent would work better with more runtime and a stronger story. While the seven minutes spent watching wasn’t a total waste, as the film wasn’t downright awful. It ultimately felt like filler for something better.
