Viva Pictures has announced the release of the new horror/thriller A.M.I., directed by Rusty Nixon (Residue, Candiland), and starring Debs Howard (“The Good Doctor”), Sam Robert Muik (“Riverdale”), Phil Granger (“Ghost Wars”), Havana Guppy (“Shut Eye”) and Bonnie Hay (“A Million Little Things”).

The film follows Cassie, who comes across a discarded cell phone with the latest AI on it. Cassie customizes the Artificial Machine Intelligence to sound like her deceased mother, which soon fills the void in Cassie’s life. As their relationship deepens, the nurturing and seemingly caring AI drives Cassie to perform heinous acts of murder convincing Cassie that they are totally justifiable.

I’m hoping for it to be something like a horror version of Her, but it instead seems more similar to I Am Mother without the grace or panache. The soundtrack is cool and reminiscent of 80s slasher films, but doesn’t quite seem to fit here with such a futuristic concept. But as A.I. continues to become a part of our lives more and more, this film might be worth seeing for relevance alone.

A.M.I. is currently available on digital and On Demand.

About the Author

From humble beginnings as a bisexual art kid who drank more coffee than a 40-year-old author, Remy now holds a BFA in Film Production from Chapman University and is a proud member of the HorrorBuzz team (and still a bisexual art kid who drinks too much coffee). They were first introduced to the world of horror and camp when their grandma showed them The Rocky Horror Picture Show at age 5, and never looked back. When they're not writing cartoons or working on movies, one can spot them in various clubs around Los Angeles performing very, very self-deprecating standup comedy. Howdy ho!
