Mondo Music’s Death Waltz Recording Company has just released an new vinyl edition of TWIN PEAKS: LIMITED EVENT SERIES – ORIGINAL SCORE SOUNDTRACK. Featuring tracks by Angelo Badalamenti, Johnny Jewel, David Lynch and Dean Hurley, the album is a great followup to Death Waltz’s two previous Twin Peaks soundtracks: TWIN PEAKS (Original Series) – ORIGINAL SCORE LP and TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK 2XLP. All three albums are available at  MondoTees.com.

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review this album!  I absolutely love the music of this show, and the fact that there had been an entire new season of music was really exciting to me.  Whether I am listening during work, when attempting to go to sleep or just because I am in the mood for something that is haunting. I am finding it easy to listen to and I don’t know that I will ever tire of it. The compositions of Badalamenti, in particular, are dreamy and very soothing, and I tend to emerge a lot more relaxed once it’s over.

The tracks that I am more familiar with, like ‘Twin Peaks Theme (Falling)’ and ‘Laura Palmer’s Theme (Love Theme from Twin Peaks)’ are still my favorites and are like old friends who I am glad to see again. However newer tracks like ‘Grady Groove (feat. Grady Tate)’ and ‘Deer Meadow Shuffle’ come close in competition.  ‘Grady Groove (feat. Grady Tate)’ has this way of anticipating a buildup in the song that never plays out, just ends, and I love it! And ‘Deer Meadow Shuffle’ is jazzy piano with an undertone of darkness that is wonderful.  The entire album is fantastic, and all the tracks work well together.

The fact that this is on vinyl is great!  Especially for a show like Twin Peaks, vinyl brings an eerie feeling that you cannot get through other formats like your phone or even a CD. For me, there is a sense of nostalgia that comes along with listening to it on vinyl.  The album is two discs, each one is a work of art itself, with the first being in Machine Room Grey and the second in Cherry Pie Splatter.

If you’re a fan of the series, and especially of the limited series, I highly recommend just taking some time out to chill and listen to the album from beginning to end. It sounds like a world unlike our own.  Maybe in a darken room, while making a cherry pie or sitting down to a damn fine cup of coffee, as I did.
