Our kids love movies and usually get stuck on the same two or three for months at a time. When we get something new, it is always a nice break from the usual rotation.

Yet, not all of them are cinematic wonders.

“Son of Bigfoot,” written by Bob Barlen and Cal Brunker (Despicable Me), is a story of family, teamwork and the evils of toupees. A young boy who is bullied and a bit “different” finds out that his absentee dad is really Bigfoot. They reconnect and bond as father teaches son the ways of the Bigfoot through a series of high energy romps in the wilderness. But it’s not all magic powers and talking animal friends. Dad also warns of the villainous “Hair Co.” who is after Bigfoot for his rare genetic mutation.

I couldn’t get my son to sit down and watch more than 15 minutes of this movie. This is a kid who watches a family play games on Netflix. You read that right, he WATCHES people play games and he would watch it for hours if we let him. Yet he couldn’t make it through “Son of Bigfoot.”

As hard as I tried, neither my kids nor I could get into this movie. First, my son lost interest and shortly after my daughter quietly walked away leaving me alone to endure this all by myself.

“Son of Bigfoot” is not a total stinker. There were a few chuckles scattered throughout the hour and a half. It’s also the first movie in a long while that doesn’t have fart jokes, toilet humor or a naked butt. That is a huge plus for me as I don’t understand why kids movies automatically go for the obvious poop humor for laughs. Newsflash, kids actually can and do appreciate high brow humor.

I did enjoy the original music by Puggy as it seemed to push the movie along.

Available on DIRECTV and in theaters on May 4th, “Son of Bigfoot” is ready for you to give it a try.

About the Author

Erin Jefferson-Foley (Mommy Fearest) is terrified of scary movies, gore and zombies. But she loves all things Halloween and Haunt related! Slowly but surely she has been dipping her toes into the realm of horror movies with great results. Pretty soon she will work her way up to watching a scary movie when it is dark outside. Erin has had a love affair with theme park Halloween events for the past 20 years. Her first time at an event was at Knott's Scary Farm in the late 80s when a family friend, a Knott's employee, escorted her into the park to watch Elvira and give her a behind the scenes tour. She was intrigued as she walked through the break room and realized that they were just people in masks and makeup. It seemed like only a short time later, Erin was performing for Halloween Haunt which led to her meeting the love of her life, her husband. Each year she cheers on her husband and his friends as they set up and run a home haunt. You can catch her helping with line control and repeating the same instructions over and over and over to the guests each night. She has been a professional dancer and actress for over 20 years. When she is not in the studio teaching dance or in her office writing, you can catch Mommy Fearest with her husband and two kids at various conventions throughout California. She enjoys Cosplay, Star Wars, Renaissance Faires, Halloween, haunted attractions, paranormal happenings, special effects makeup and horrible reality television shows.
