“Some things belong to sea and should stay there.”

So goes the tagline of Dark Blue, the directorial debut of accomplished Italian actor and stunt man Michael Segal. If the early trailers are any indication, this is one film we’re happy to see make its way to the surface. Featuring underwater filming from accomplished diver and documentarian Simone Modugno off the picturesque coast of Elba island, Dark Blue looks to be a stunning artistic accomplishment.

The story is a bit to keep up with, so follow along. So there’s a ship that crashed in the 30s which was carrying some very unique cargo, the daughters of the Norwegian sea god Aegir. Departing in secrecy from a Norwegian port to Vatican City to avoid the Nazis and Italian fascists. The ship, Miogarosormr, ends up sinking on its way to the Vatican, and with the harbor being destroyed in a sinister fire, all records of it are lost. What the divers that timately discover the ship don’t know is that it’s guarded by a mythical Celtic creature that still might be there.blue3

The cast of characters includes Mike (Michael Segal) who is fearless and has a sense of humor, but also a mean streak. Kevin (Rober D’Antona) is the calmer and cautious mind and both are caught in a love triangle with the beautiful Lisa (Flavia Sabatino). Rounding out the cast is Hooper (David White) a mysterious one-eyed sailor that may know more than he lets on.

Dark Blue is an Italian film shot entirely in English with filming locations including an actual sunken ship off the coast of the beautiful island of Elba. The trailer below features many shots of this undersea filming as well as some pulse-pounding action that looks right up the alley of actor/director Michael Segal, who has also worked as a stuntman for many years.
