This past weekend, Midsummer Scream attendees had the honor of welcoming the citizens of Melancholy Falls to Long Beach for a very special live performance by the vocal talent behind Return Home, an audio drama serial that started earlier this year. Writer and producer Jeff Heimbuch, along with his fantastic cast and crew, put on an engaging and hilarious show for all audience members to enjoy, regardless of previous experience listening to the podcast or not.

The live performance continued along the already-established story of Jonathan and his buddy (conveniently named Buddy), and their adventures throughout Melancholy Falls, a quaint but strange town in the heart of New Jersey. Featuring eight characters (and one suspecting audience member), the 45-minute long “episode” gave the audience the opportunity to shape the outcome of the story through questions, voting opportunities, and even a small scavenger hunt within the room. Fans of the show were also given the chance to play a “mini game” throughout the run of the convention, allowing them to interact with several of the show’s characters on the convention floor, in which a significant number of attendees took part in.

The event had a smashing turnout, completely filling the room and even squeezing additional audience into floor space. Fans of the show finally had the opportunity to engage with the cast, and newcomers have now gotten a taste of the binge-worthy podcast series. Energy and excitement filled the room throughout the entire performance, and audience members were constantly eager to participate when it came time. Overall, this event was a hit and I hope to see the wonderful creatures and creators of Melancholy Falls RETURN HOME to Southern California again soon!

The event recording will be available to download through iTunes later this week.
