Last night Lionsgate revealed that their film project, The Woods, was in actuality, Blair Witch, a sequel to the groundbreaking 1999 found footage film, arriving on September 16th. Along with the announcement the trailer was officially unveiled.

Blair Witch, will follow in the footsteps of the horror classic by being another found footage movie, yet with a more modern feel. It stars James Allen McCune as the brother of Heather Donahue’s character from the original, who sets out to discover what happened to his long-missing sister after seeing a mysterious video on Youtube.

Shot in a veil of secrecy in Vancouver last year with the working title The Woods, Blair With is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest).

    I wonder if the woods was meant to be its own movie but when it was sold was rebranded as a blair witch movie to try and capitalize on the concepts of franchises and recognizable titles?
