What is The Truth?

We’re not sure yet, but we are definitely intrigued by it.

For starters, it’s the name of an an immersive theatrical experience that is being performed during the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and it is the debut production of Shine On Collective.

The show is not a traditional theatrical experience, where you would sit down and watch it performed on the stage before you. Instead, the stage is Hollywood itself, and as an audience member, you will be part of the production. It takes place all within an area of Hollywood, sending the guests on a walking tour in order to participate.

From the show’s description: When you arrive for the show, you are told a truth that seems difficult to believe yet eerily accurate: that you have extrasensory perception, an ability to see and hear more than the average human. Dr. Herbert Griffin, the leader of a strange and mysterious organization, has secretly been keeping tabs on people like you for a long time and he would like you to test his newest invention, which will amplify your spectacular abilities. His invention, he assures you, will further open your mind. Then he sends you out to explore the city with new eyes and ears.

Who HASN’T walked around LA and wondered what the people passing them by were thinking? Well, with this show, you will finally get your chance, to do so. What I love is that The Truth will allow you to listen to thoughts via headphones (which you should bring), but also have you interacting with characters on the street.

p_3304_i_7820011“This is not just a play,” said Anna Mavromati, playwright and assistant director, in the show’s press release. “It’s an adventure. We want the audience to play along, interact and explore.”

I love when productions blur the line between fantasy and reality, and The Truth is doing just that. We’re excited to see where this show leads, and will be attending for sure!

You can learn more about The Truth, and purchase tickets, on the Hollywood Fringe Festival’s website. You can also find out more about them on the Shine Laboratory Facebook page.
